Description
Semax ships as a sealed vial holding 10mg of lyophilized powder. Every batch has its own certificate of analysis, and you can pull it up by scanning the QR code on the side of the label. It’s sold for laboratory research only.
What is Semax?
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide: Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. The front half is ACTH(4-7), a fragment of the stress hormone ACTH that has no hormonal effect on the adrenal glands. The Pro-Gly-Pro tail makes it last longer.
It’s studied for memory, attention and nerve protection, and it’s been shown to raise BDNF levels in rodent brains.

Research background
The same Moscow institute that made Selank developed Semax in the 1980s. It’s registered in Russia, where it’s been studied after strokes, among other uses.
Outside Russia, published data is limited and it isn’t approved by the FDA.

Batch testing and the COA
The QR code isn’t decoration. It links to the certificate of analysis for the exact batch in your hand, so you aren’t relying on a generic sheet. Check the lot number, the date and the purity result for the compound before you open it.
Keep a copy of the COA with your lab notes. It makes it much easier to compare results between batches later on.
Working out the concentration
How much liquid you add decides the concentration. For this vial holding 10mg:
- 1ml of bacteriostatic water gives 10mg/ml
- 2ml of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/ml
- 3ml of bacteriostatic water gives about 3.33mg/ml
Less liquid gives a stronger solution, more liquid gives a weaker one. Write down what you used, right on the vial, so nobody has to guess later.
Storage and reconstitution
Store the vial cold and dark. A fridge is fine for weeks, and a freezer is better for months. Give it a few minutes at room temperature before opening.
Most labs reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water. Let the water run down the side of the vial instead of straight onto the powder, then swirl until it’s clear. Keep the solution in the fridge afterward. A peptide case helps if vials travel between benches.
