Description

DSIP from LA Peptides comes as 5mg of lyophilized powder in a sealed glass vial, made for laboratory research. Every batch has its own certificate of analysis, and you can pull it up by scanning the QR code on the side of the label.

What is DSIP?

DSIP stands for delta sleep-inducing peptide. It’s a nonapeptide, nine amino acids long: Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu.

It’s named for what researchers first saw: more delta-wave (deep, slow-wave) sleep in the animals that received it. Oddly, no one has found a gene or a receptor for it, so how it works is still unclear.

Research so far

Swiss researchers in Basel isolated it in 1977 from the blood of rabbits kept asleep by electrical brain stimulation. Studies since then have looked at sleep, stress hormones and pain in animals, and a handful of small human sleep studies have been run with mixed results.

It’s an old peptide with a lot of open questions, which is part of why it’s still studied.

What’s on the certificate of analysis

Scan the QR code on the label and the certificate of analysis for that batch opens on your phone. A peptide COA usually lists the lot number, the test date, purity by HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry. Before you start, check that the lot number on the COA matches the one on your vial.

Saving the COA alongside your records is a small habit that pays off when you’re comparing one batch with the next.

Working out the concentration

How much liquid you add decides the concentration. For this vial holding 5mg:

  • 1ml of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/ml
  • 2ml of bacteriostatic water gives 2.5mg/ml
  • 3ml of bacteriostatic water gives about 1.67mg/ml

Pick a volume that makes your measurements easy, then write the concentration and the date on the vial. It’s a small step that saves confusion a week later.

How to reconstitute and store it

Keep the sealed vial in the fridge, or in the freezer if you won’t get to it for a few months. Before you open it, let it come to room temperature so moisture doesn’t condense inside.

Most labs reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water. Run the liquid slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently. Don’t shake it. Once mixed, keep it refrigerated and use it within a few weeks. A peptide case helps if vials travel between benches.
