Description

SS-31 10mg from LA Peptides comes as 10mg of lyophilized powder in a sealed glass vial, made for laboratory research. Every batch has its own certificate of analysis, and you can pull it up by scanning the QR code on the side of the label.

What is SS-31?

SS-31, also called elamipretide, is a four-amino-acid peptide: D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2. It alternates positive charges with aromatic rings, a design that lets it slip through cell membranes and collect in mitochondria.

Once there, it binds cardiolipin, a fat that’s found almost only in the inner mitochondrial membrane and that holds the energy-making machinery in place.

Research so far

Hazel Szeto and Peter Schiller designed it in the early 2000s; SS stands for Szeto-Schiller. Stealth BioTherapeutics took it into clinical trials for mitochondrial diseases, including primary mitochondrial myopathy and Barth syndrome.

It’s one of the few mitochondria-targeted peptides with real human trial data. This vial is research material, not the clinical product.

What’s on the certificate of analysis

Scan the QR code on the label and the certificate of analysis for that batch opens on your phone. A peptide COA usually lists the lot number, the test date, purity by HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry. Before you start, check that the lot number on the COA matches the one on your SS-31 10mg vial.

Saving the COA alongside your records is a small habit that pays off when you’re comparing one batch with the next.

Which SS-31 size is right for you?

We sell SS-31 in two sizes. The larger vial costs less per milligram, and the smaller one makes sense if you only need a little.

  • SS-31 10mg: $49.99, about $5 per mg (this page)
  • SS-31 50mg: $150, about $3 per mg

Not sure? The SS-31 10mg vial is a sensible place to start. You can also look at SS-31 50mg.

SS-31 10mg reconstitution and concentration

How much liquid you add decides the concentration. For a SS-31 10mg vial:

  • 1ml of bacteriostatic water gives 10mg/ml
  • 2ml of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/ml
  • 3ml of bacteriostatic water gives about 3.33mg/ml

Pick a volume that makes your measurements easy, then write the concentration and the date on the vial. It’s a small step that saves confusion a week later.

How to reconstitute and store it

Keep the sealed vial in the fridge, or in the freezer if you won’t get to it for a few months. Before you open it, let it come to room temperature so moisture doesn’t condense inside.

Most labs reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water. Run the liquid slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently. Don’t shake it. Once mixed, keep it refrigerated and use it within a few weeks. A peptide case helps if vials travel between benches.
