Description
MOTS-C 40mg from LA Peptides comes as 40mg of lyophilized powder in a sealed glass vial, made for laboratory research. Every batch has its own certificate of analysis, and you can pull it up by scanning the QR code on the side of the label.
What is MOTS-C?
MOTS-C is a 16-amino-acid peptide (Met-Arg-Trp-Gln-Glu-Met-Gly-Tyr-Ile-Phe-Tyr-Pro-Arg-Lys-Leu-Arg) coded inside mitochondrial DNA, in the gene for 12S ribosomal RNA. Peptides coded by mitochondria were a surprise when they turned up, and MOTS-C is the best studied one.
Cells under metabolic stress send it to the nucleus, where it affects genes for energy use. It also activates AMPK, the cell’s main energy sensor.

Research so far
Changhan Lee’s lab at the University of Southern California described MOTS-C in 2015. In that first paper, mice given MOTS-C were protected from diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Later work tied it to exercise capacity in older mice.
Blood levels fall with age in humans. Clinical data is still very early.

What’s on the certificate of analysis
Scan the QR code on the label and the certificate of analysis for that batch opens on your phone. A peptide COA usually lists the lot number, the test date, purity by HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry. Before you start, check that the lot number on the COA matches the one on your MOTS-C 40mg vial.
Saving the COA alongside your records is a small habit that pays off when you’re comparing one batch with the next.
Which MOTS-C size is right for you?
We sell MOTS-C in three sizes. The bigger vials cost less per milligram, and the smaller ones mean less waste if you only need a little for a short study.
- MOTS-C 10mg: $69.99, about $7 per mg
- MOTS-C 20mg: $119.99, about $6 per mg
- MOTS-C 40mg: $199.99, about $5 per mg (this page)
Not sure? The MOTS-C 40mg vial is the better value if you go through a lot. You can also look at MOTS-C 10mg and MOTS-C 20mg.
MOTS-C 40mg reconstitution and concentration
How much liquid you add decides the concentration. For a MOTS-C 40mg vial:
- 2ml of bacteriostatic water gives 20mg/ml
- 5ml of bacteriostatic water gives 8mg/ml
Pick a volume that makes your measurements easy, then write the concentration and the date on the vial. It’s a small step that saves confusion a week later.
How to reconstitute and store it
Keep the sealed vial in the fridge, or in the freezer if you won’t get to it for a few months. Before you open it, let it come to room temperature so moisture doesn’t condense inside.
Most labs reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water. Run the liquid slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently. Don’t shake it. Once mixed, keep it refrigerated and use it within a few weeks. A peptide case helps if vials travel between benches.
