Description

KPV from LA Peptides comes as 10mg of lyophilized powder in a sealed glass vial, made for laboratory research. Every batch has its own certificate of analysis, and you can pull it up by scanning the QR code on the side of the label.

What is KPV?

KPV is a tripeptide: lysine, proline and valine. Those three amino acids are the tail end of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), a hormone with a long record in inflammation research.

What makes KPV interesting is that it seems to keep the anti-inflammatory activity of alpha-MSH without the pigment effects. It’s also small enough to be taken up by PepT1, a peptide transporter found in the gut lining, which is why so many studies use oral or gut models.

Research so far

Most of the published work is in mouse models of colitis and in cultured intestinal and skin cells. A 2008 study in Gastroenterology showed that PepT1 carries KPV into gut cells, and later groups tried packaging it in nanoparticles for gut delivery.

There’s no human clinical data to speak of, and it isn’t an approved drug.

What’s on the certificate of analysis

Scan the QR code on the label and the certificate of analysis for that batch opens on your phone. A peptide COA usually lists the lot number, the test date, purity by HPLC and identity by mass spectrometry. Before you start, check that the lot number on the COA matches the one on your vial.

Saving the COA alongside your records is a small habit that pays off when you’re comparing one batch with the next.

Working out the concentration

How much liquid you add decides the concentration. For this vial holding 10mg:

  • 1ml of bacteriostatic water gives 10mg/ml
  • 2ml of bacteriostatic water gives 5mg/ml
  • 3ml of bacteriostatic water gives about 3.33mg/ml

Pick a volume that makes your measurements easy, then write the concentration and the date on the vial. It’s a small step that saves confusion a week later.

How to reconstitute and store it

Keep the sealed vial in the fridge, or in the freezer if you won’t get to it for a few months. Before you open it, let it come to room temperature so moisture doesn’t condense inside.

Most labs reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water. Run the liquid slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently. Don’t shake it. Once mixed, keep it refrigerated and use it within a few weeks. A peptide case helps if vials travel between benches.
